
Rufus Wainwright is a Canadian/American singer, songwriter, and a recording artist.
Rufus has a tenor singing voice, and plays both the piano and guitar, often switching between the two instruments when performing live. His music covers the world of rock, opera, ballet, theater, dance and film.
His album, "Rufus Wainwright," received critical acclaim; Rolling Stone recognized it as one of the best albums of the year, and named the singer "Best New Artist" of the year. Wainwright was nominated for four awards by the Gay & Lesbian American Music Awards, including Album of the Year, Pop Recording of the Year and Video of the Year.
He also composes and writes opera. His opera "Prima Donna" was staged in 2009 during the Manchester International Festival at the Palace Theater. It made its North American debut in Toronto at the Luminato Festival in June of 2010. He also does ballet. In 2005, The Pennsylvania Ballet premired a ballet by Matthew Neenan, that was set to Wainwright's music.
He has recorded eight albums and two DVDs to date. His album, "Rufus Does Judy at Carnegie Hall," was nominated for a 2009 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. His newest album, just recently released, is titled, "All Days Are Nights: Songs For Lulu."
Wainwright maintains a busy tour schedule and his tour stops include Atlantic City.
