Profile

The Smithereens

The Smithereens are a rock band from Carteret, New Jersey. They are known for writing and playing catchy 1960s-influenced power pop. The Smithereens play a lively hard rock brand of music using powerful Marshall Amplifiers.

The group formed in 1980 with members Pat DiNizio (vocals & guitar), Jim Babjak (guitar & vocals), Mike Mesaros (bass guitar & vocals), and Dennis Diken (drums & percussion). This lineup continued until 2006, when Mesaros left the band and Severo "The Thrilla" Jornacion took over on bass guitar.

The Smitereens, inspired by Buddy Holly, play a wide variety of rock and pop music, however their recordings of Beatles music are especially good.

In their album "Meet The Smithereens" the group pays homage to the Beatles landmark Capitol debut album by lovingly re-recording "Meet The Beatles" in its entirety. "Meet The Smithereens" is a fun romping and wonderful re-imagining of the spirit of the early Liverpool Beatles as heard through the power-pop chords and Marshall amps of New Jersey's Smithereens.

KOCH Records recently announced the release of "B-Sides The Beatles," The Smithereens' highly anticipated follow up to their critically acclaimed 2007 release, "Meet The Smithereens."

The group is still active and tours frequently. Their tour stops include Atlantic City.
