Slash is a musician who was the lead guitarist of the hard rock band Guns N' Roses. Slash's real name is Saul Hudson. He was born in Britain but later moved to the U.S. and became an American citizen. According to Swindle Magazine, he picked up the nickname "Slash" from a family friend who said he was always in a hurry, zipping around from one thing to another.

He joined the Guns N' Roses band in 1984 and played with them until about 1995. During this time the band issued most of it's best known hits. Its album, "Appetite for Destruction" is the best debut album of all time, with 28 million copies being sold worldwide.

In 2002 Slash formed a band named Velvet Revolve with friends Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum. Velvet Revolve played together until 2008. One of their hits was the album "Contraband" which went double platinum and became the basis for highly successful 19 month tour. It is likely that Velvet Revolver get back together again.

Slash is also a much in demand session musician, and has recorded music with Cheap Trick, Ronnie Wood, Alice Cooper, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder and others. Slash also played guitar for Michael Jackson recorded albums, including "Dangerous."

In 2009, Time Magazine ranked Slash #2 on its list of the "10 Best Guitar Players of All-Time."
