
The Roots are a Grammy award winning hip hop band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They focus on live instrumentation, making their shows and concerts among the best in the business.
Their debut album was released in 1995, however their second album Illadelph Halflife, released in 1996 was the group's first album to crack the Top 40 on the Billboard 200 chart. They have collaborated with a wide range of artists from different genres, including Roy Ayers and Cody Chesnut. The Roots have generated a great deal of critical acclaim and influenced numerous rap and R&B acts. They have also developed the reputation of the band that can play anything, and play it well.

On March 2, 2009, The Roots began a tenure as the house band on the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon TV show.
The band also tours, and their tour schedule includes Atlantic City. The cofounder of The Roots, Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson, grew up in Atlantic City and for a few years lived on the 14 th floor of the Claridge.
