Ozzy Osbourne is a singer-songwriter, who was the lead vocalist of the British heavy metal band Black Sabbath.

Black Sabbath, formed in 1968 was the first, and one of the most influential heavy metal rock bands.They were ranked by MTV as the "Greatest Metal Band" of all time; others have ranked them second behind Led Zepplin. The bands name reflected the incorporation of occult and horror inspired lyrics into their performances.

Osbourne sang and performed with the Back Sabbath rock band until 1975 when he departed from them due to his overuse of drugs. But he then went on to have a significant and successful solo career in which he heavily influenced the heavy metal scene, becoming known as the "Godfather of Heavy Metal."

Ozzy released his first solo album "Blizzard of Oz" in 1980 which quickly went 4 times platinum. From the early 1980's through the 1990's, Ozzy recorded 11 more albums, which sold more than 50 million copies worldwide. Ozzy won a Grammy Award in 1993 for the Best Metal Performance, based on his "I Don't Want To Change the World," which was a track from his "No More Tears" album.

From early in the 90s and up until to 2005, Ozzie and his wife Sharon ran the Ozzfest, an annual festival that promoted and showcased new and upcoming hard rock and heavy metal acts and bands. The Ozzfest was always heavily attended and financially successful and brought Ozzy Osbourne much attention and publicity, and furthered his reputation as the "Godfather of Heavy Metal."

During the early 2000s, Ozzy Osbourne stared in his own TV reality show, The Osbournes, alongside wife/manager Sharon and two of their three children, Kelly and Jack. The show became the highest rated series in MTV history.

Ozzy has had some short, intermittent reunions with Black Sabbath, however, he still operates mainly as a solo artist. Ozzy released his "Black Rain" album in 2007 and he is still in high demand along the concert circuit.
