Bill Maher is a stand-up comedian, a television host, a social and political commentator, and an author.

He is known for his political satire and sociopolitical commentary. His comments target a wide range of topics including: religion, politics, bureaucracies of many kinds, political correctness, the mass media, greed among people and persons in positions of high political and social power and the lack of intellectual curiosity of the electorate .

Maher has set the boundaries of where funny political talk can go on American television. For the last six years on HBO's "Real Time" TV show, Maher's unflinching honesty and big laughs have won him twenty-one Emmy nominations.

He has also written four best-selling books, these being: "True Story, Does Anybody Have a Problem with That?" "Politically Incorrect's Greatest Hits," "When You Ride Alone, You Ride with Bin Laden," and "New Rules: Polite Musings from a Timid Observer."

Maher describes himself as a libertarian and believes that, "government is really there to do the things that people absolutely can't do for themselves."

He started his career as a stand-up comedian, and still performs at least fifty dates a year on the casino circuit and in sold-out theaters across the country. He often performs in Atlantic City.
