Profile

Loretta Lynn

Loretta Lynn is a country music singer, songwriter and actress from Kentucky. She was one of the leading country vocalists and songwriters during the 1960s and 1970s.

She is best known for her hit song and album Coal Miners Daughter," which peaked at #1 on the Billboard Country Chart in 1970. "Coal Miner's Daughter" tells the story of Lynn's life growing up in rural Butcher Hollow, Kentucky. The song later served as the basis for a best-selling biography (1976) and an Oscar-winning film. Throughout her career Loretta had over 70 hit songs, including duets.

Loretta still regularly performs at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. People who attend Lynn's concerts, where she wears glittering, elegant gowns designed for her, often say she is as much a comedian as she is a musician.

At age 74, Loretta Lynn is known as much for her feisty song writing as her singing, and still spends half of her year touring across the country. She often performs in Atlantic City.
