Jennifer Hudson is a singer, songwriter and film actress. Hudson came to prominence in 2004 as one of the finalists on the third season of the Fox TV reality television series "American Idol."
Jennifer later was selected for the role of "Effie White" in the 2006 film version of the broadway musical "Dreamgirls," for which she won an Oscar for "Best Supporting Actress."
Her first recorded album, "Jennifer Hudson," was released in 2008, and her single "Spotlite" won much acclaim.
Jennifer claims that "a song has to be something I can feel for me to be able to sing it rather than sing 'at' it." She says her innate ability to feel a song was enhanced by listening to singers like Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle and Gladys Knight.
In 2008 Hudson's mother, brother, and nephew were killed in a shooting. Her estranged brother-in-law has been charged with their murders.
Even burdened by these family trajedies, she performed at the Super Bowl XLIII in 2009. In 2011, she saw a new dawn, and sported a new slimmer figure. She recently released her newest album "I Remember Me."
