Al Green


Al Green, is a gospel and soul music singer from Arkansas. Green is known for his love ballads and powerful and expressive voice.

Green became popular in the 1970s, with hit singles such as "You Oughta Be With Me," "Spending My Time," "Love and Happiness" and "Let's Stay Together." Other of his hits of the 70's were "I'm Still in Love With You," "Simply Beautiful" and "Call Me."

By the late 70s, Green began concentrating almost exclusively on gospel music. From 1981 to 1989 Green recorded a series of gospel recordings, winning eight "soul gospel performance" Grammys in that period. These included his album "The Lord Will Make a Way."

After spending several years exclusively performing gospel, Green returned to R&B. In 1995 Green released his first secular album in some time, "Your Heart's In Good Hand." In 2003 Green released the secular album entitled "I Can't Stop," a collaboration with Willie Mitchell. In 2008, Green's album "Lay It Down" verified his comeback success, reaching #9 on the Billboard hit album chart.

Al Green often performs live in theaters and casinos around the country, including Atlantic City.
