Melissa Etheridge is a rock singer, songwriter and musician from Kansas. She has received fifteen Grammy Award nominations winning two, and has sold over twenty-seven million albums worldwide.
Etheridge began playing the club circuit around Boston but then moved to performing in Los Angelis lesbian bars. Her debut album "Melissa Etheridge" was an underground hit, and the single, "Bring Me Some Water", was nominated for a Grammy.
In 1993, Etheridge released "Yes I Am," which spent 138 weeks on the Billboard 200 charts and became her largest selling album. Etheridge's follow-up to "Yes I Am" was her album "Your Little Secret." That album produced two Top 40 singles, these being "I Want to Come Over" and "Nowhere to Go."
Melissa is a gay and lesbian activist since her public coming out in January 1993. She is also a mother and cancer survivor. In 2002, Etheridge released her autobiography "The Truth Is: My Life in Love and Music." Her newest album, released in 2010, is "Fearless Love." "Fearless Love" offers pounding rockers and whisper-light ballads. Melissa says "each song in the album has an ingredient of love and fear and the battle between the two."
