Bob Dylan is a singer-songwriter and musician from Minnesota. Bob has been a major influence in music over the years, especially his songwritting.
Bob started out playing rock music but moved toward folk as he felt that the lyrics he wanted to use to express himself could better be conveyed through folk music. His early lyrics incorporated political, social and philosophical subjects which often most appealed to the counterculture. He defied existing pop music conventions and established new standards as to what could be said, and how, in song and music.
His song "Blowin' in the Wind," released in 1963, was considered a protest song, as it poses a series of questions about peace, war, and freedom. "Blowin' in the Wind" was somewhat vague and ambiguous and could be applied to just about any freedom issue. The song established Dylan's reputation as a civil libertarian which he has maintained through subsequent changes in his style and attitude.
His song "Blowin' in the Wind" was later recorded by Peter, Paul and Mary and became an international hit. This set a precedent, as many other artists went on to have hits with songs written by Dylan.
Dylan performs with guitar, keyboards, and harmonica. Besides rock and folk his music often incorporates blues, country, gospel, jazz and even swing.
During his still ongoing career Dylan has recorded more than 30 studio albums. Among those considerd his best are "Highway 61 Revisited," "Bringing it All Back Home," "Blonde on Blonde" and "Blood on the Tracks."
Backed by a changing line-up of musicians, he has toured steadily since the late 1980s on what has been called the Never Ending Tour. He often performs in Atlantic City.
