Dark Star Orchestra is a Grateful Dead Tribute Band, named after the Grateful Dead Rock Band's hit song, "Dark Star."

In 1995, after charter member and lead guitarist Jerry Garcia died, the famous Grateful Dead rock band was disbanded. Since then a number of Grateful Dead Tribute bands have appeared. One of the best is the Dark Star Orchestra. The Dark Star Orchestra is known for their near
true-to-life recreation of shows performed by the Grateful Dead rock band. The Washington Post declared them "the hottest Grateful Dead tribute act going."

Since 1997 the Dark Star Orchestra has been touring, mimicking The Grateful Dead. In 2008, the Dark Star Orchestra performed over 150 shows throughout the U.S. They continue to tour. Their tour stops include Atlantic City.

The Grateful Dead

The Grateful Dead was an American rock band formed in the San Francisco Bay Area. The band was formed by Bob Weir and Jerry Garcia in 1965. The Beatles significantly influenced their musical direction and resulted in turning the band into a rock 'n' roll band. However the Band was also known for its unique and eclectic style, which fused elements of rock, folk, bluegrass, blues, reggae, country and jazz. In addition it projected a psychedelic flavor that appealed to the hippie crowd.

Originally called Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions, the band was later renamed The Warlocks and eventually the Grateful Dead. The fans of the Grateful Dead became known as "Deadheads."

The Grateful Dead toured constantly during their long career, playing more than 2000 live concerts. They recorded numerous hit albums. See discography below.
