Robert Cray is a blues musician, a guitarist, and a singer. Some credit "the 1980's 'blues revival" to Cray.
Cray's blend of soul vocals and blues guitar work won approval from the 'old guard' - Eric Clapton, Tina Turner, Diana Ross - as-well-as a younger audience, who pushed his recordings into the platinum tier.
The Robert Cray Band began with its barnstorming regional origins in Eugene, Oregon, in 1974 and extended through 1991, encompassing such early high-water marks as "Strong Persuader" (1986) and "Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark" (1988), both winners of the Best Contemporary Blues Performance Grammy.
Robert Cray's band was recently reformed with the return of his old friend and colleague, bassist Richard Cousins, and the addition of drummer Tony Braunagal.
Cray recently made concert appearances in Brazil and Japan. Next, he will tour the USA with his reconfigured band to promote his newest album, "This Time." Robert's tour stops include Atlantic City.
