Johnny Cash was a musician, singer and songwriter. He was one of the most influential musicians of the 20th Century. Primarily a country music artist, his songs and sound spanned many other genres including rock and roll, blues, folk and gospel.

Cash was known for his deep and distinctive bass-baritone voice, the "chicka-boom" freight train sound of his Tennessee Three backing band, his demeanor, and his dark clothing, which earned him the nickname "The Man in Black." He traditionally started his concerts with the introduction "Hello,
I'm Johnny Cash."

Beginning his career as an outlaw to the Nashville establishment, Johnny Cash has come to define country music over the last 40 years. At first, his unique mix of hillbilly music with gospel and blues made him a perfect fit at Sam Phillips' Sun Records, where he recorded such classics as "Folsom Prison Blues" and "I Walk The Line." From there, Johnny signed with Columbia Records and embarked on one of the most remarkable musical careers of the Twentieth Century.
