Anita Baker is an R&B and soul singer and a songwriter.
She began singing in a gospel choir at the age of 12. By the time she was 16, she was singing for local bands; and later for the Detroit soul band "Chapter 8." Baker's first recorded album was "The Songstress," which realized only limited success. However, her second album "Rapture," recorded in 1986, sold eight million copies worldwide. Baker had written many of the songs on this album herself.
Anita's albums include "Giving You the Best That I Got," "Composition" and "Rythm of Love." A "The Best of Anita Baker" album was released in 2002. Four of Baker's albums have gone platinum and two have reached gold status. She also has won eight Grammy awards.
Her 2007 world tour "A Night of Rapture" was filmed and released on DVD
(see below).
Anita Baker continues to tour, and her tour stops include Atlantic City.
