Aziz Ansari is an actor, writer, and stand-up comedian from South Carolina.
He currently stars as Tom Haverford, the cocky, eccentric, government employee, on the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation.
While attending New York University he did stand up comedy at New York comedy clubs, including the Upright Citizens Brigade. In 2006 he won the Jury Award for "Best Standup" at HBO's U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colorado. For two years he co-stared in the MTV sketch show, Human Giant which he co-wrote.
Ansari's film acting career includes the movie "30 Minutes or less," in which he plays a clueless bank robber. In this movie Aziz's best friend, a pizza delivery man, gets a bomb strapped to him by bad guys and is forced to attempt to rob a bank. Ansari gets dragged along, and provides enough humor to make the movie a hit.
Aziz's comedy style has always shied away from ethnic humor. he tends to focus on aspects of his personal life. “I like talking about things that are going on in my life, because that’s always going to be different and original,” he says. “No one else is gonna be talking about my personal experiences."
In September 2011, Ansari was featured in an USA Today article "Comic Aziz Ansari takes the funny and runs with it." In the same month he was on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, where they called him "The Excitable Joke Machine."
Although Ansari is extremely busy wit his TV and Film career, he still makes time to perform live as a standup comedian along the casino concert circuit. He often performs in Atlantic City.
