Profile

Allman Brothers Band

The Allman Brother's Band was formed in 1969 by Duane and Gregg Allman.

The band combined rock, blues, country and jazz in a style sometimes called southern rock. They achieved artistic and commercial success in 1971 with the release of "At Fillmore East," featuring extended renditions of their songs "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" and "Whipping Post," and often is considered one of the best live albums ever made. In 1973 their album "Brothers and Sisters," with its single "Ramblin Man," was a huge hit.

The band broke up in 1976 after Duane Allman was killed in a motorcycle accident. Gregg Allman went on to carve out a successful solo career. He continued to perform solo until 1997 when the band was reformed with some new members. The new band achieved back to back Grammy Award nominations in 2003 and 2004 in the category of Best Rock Instrumental, for performances from "Hittin' The Note" and "One Way Out".

Present members of the band include: Gregg Allman (vocals and keyboard), Derek Trucks (slide and lead guitar), Butch Trucks ( drums), Jaimoe (drums), Mark Quinonoes (congas and percussion), Warren Hayes ( vocals, lead and slide guitar) and Oteil Burbridge (bass).

The band continues to record and tour. Their tour stops include Atlantic City.
